Goals For Grace Pre School Day Care Center

The purpose of Grace Preschool Day Care Center shall be to provide a safe family-like environment for the children of families of our community, ten hours a day, five days a week throughout the year. This further purpose will be to provide within the above framework an early childhood education for all participating in its program. We recognize that each child is an individual with a personality and talents distinct from others. The basic needs to establish trust, satisfy curiosity and maintain good health are shared by all.

During the school year it will be the desire, goal and responsibility of the teachers in the group to provide experiences which will meet the child's needs and enable him or her to develop to his or her own fullest capacity, without the restrictions of an imposed time table of accomplishment.

Great emphasis will be placed upon language development and the curriculum will play oriented so as to stimulate communication. Play is a practicing ground for skills development. Through play activities, the exploring, experimental, imaginative nature of the child will, hopefully be nurtured. Through play we hope to plant the seeds of knowledge and establish beginning concepts.

We will strive to keep activities as free of detail as possible, stimulating and above all, available so that the child's curiosity and interest in his world will prepare him/her for an active participating role in society. We hope to establish individual goals through:

Socializing (respecting the rights of others and getting along with others and getting with out children)
Physical activities (creating an interest in organized activities that help to develop large and small muscles)
Nutrition (learning about foods and eating habits; good health)
Health (learning about their bodies)
Arts and Crafts (traditional and self-expression)
Books (creating an awareness of the real and make-believe world and distinguishing between the two)
Science (providing activities which lead children into first hand expression with concrete materials and which lead them to develop inquiry skills)
Multi cultural (creating an awareness of different cultures)
Play (exploring, experimenting, imagining)
Music creating an interest in classics, foreign songs which emphasize other cultures and traditional songs and music.  Experimenting with instruments and creating musical instruments using the body in various movements to express inner feelings.

While there will be much freedom, there will also be limits compatible with the group's need. We feel that freedom to grow depends on limits while help the child feel secure and comfortable with his or her self, with others, and with his environment.

Time will be set aside to work with each child individually. A wide variety of activities will be provided to reinforce instruction on letter recognition and numerals. colors, geometric shapes, opposite concepts, etc. These activities will be presented through commercial and teacher-made games,
block-building, cooking rhythms, poetry, etc.

Finally, we will try to install the concept that work accomplished and done to the best of one's ability is in itself the best reward. We will try to climinate the words "I can't" to "I will try" and eventually to "Yes I can!"
